Robert, some of the Cherokees came from North Carolina in 1817 to 1821. They settled in Missouri and Arkansas and became very well to do. With the Cherokee especially you can't rule out that they settled there. The Cherokees of the Trail of Tears called these people "old settlers". Some were disowned by the Cherokee tribe.
