speed of ox-drawn wagons

Stephen Whitlock,
.
Below are "bread stuffs" entries in my index of an 1865 diary kept at Fort Davis, Stephens County TX, where 120 people were forted up. .. I was surprised by how long it took to make a trip ... a trip so they could have "bread" because they already had plenty of beef. Every few days a wagon was either leaving or coming.

.
flour and corn meal had to be hauled from Parker County, 100 miles distant, since that was where wheat was
raised -— a 4- to 6-week trip in ox-drawn wagons; repeated entries: milling wagon arrived; made molasses; pecans; goats; buffalo meat; coon for dinner
.
This 2-page index is part of my 1,022-page book that is re-indexed in my 134-page Name Index, where I used the term "foodstuffs."
