I'm too tired to type it all but this explains why Pike did not send any white troops to Van Dorn. It also shows the state of affairs of Pikes department. More over I don't think Hindman offered any of his money to keep things going and Pike says he lent $20,000 to help make payroll.
I think page 856 shows Pike's resignation and a statement doubting Hindmans power to order him around,,,,
