Re: Cherokee "Pins (" Kee-too-wha ?)

My ggg grandfathers were Johnson Fisher Sr and David Tadpole (Jr). Johnson Fisher Sr was not a full blood but was considered an 'old time Indian' who followed the old ways according to information contained in his widow's pension application. He is not considered to have been a part of Drew's Regiment as far as I can tell.

David Tadpole was a full blood. When he applied for his pension, he was 'accused' of fighting for the CSA. There were many statements made by others who had served with him stating this was not true. One fellow soldier explained that they have both joined Drew's Regiment because they thought they were going to guard and/or protect John Ross. When they found out they were going to have to fight against "the Treaty", they turned around and went home. He continued by stating they joined later with the Home Guard when they were given the chance and that was the only side they ever actually fought with.

Thank you for the information concerning Pin Indians. I know Pin Indians are often referred to in a negative light, but I still take pride in my Pin ancestors.
