29th Tx Cav and 1st Choctaw-Chickasaw

howdy --

I am a little puzzled about the relationship between the 29th Texas Cavalry and the 1st Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles. Can someone explain it?

After searching genealogy, I found great grandma's sister married Tarlton Bull (his second wife). His brother was George Bull. They moved from Wisconsin to Denton County, Tx in 1859.

My great grandma was Josephine (Brown) Richey and her sister was Sarah Ann (Brown) Bull. In Tarlton's Texas pension papers one witness said Tarlton was in the 29th Tx Cav and it only casually mentioned he was at the battles of Elk Creek and Cabin Creek, and said he served in Texas, Indian Trritory, and Arkansas.

For his brother George an article in the Denton Tx newspaper said he was a member of the 1st Chickasaw and Choctaw Mounted Rifles, but his pension also says he was in the 29th Texas Cavalry, and doesn't mention the Choctaw/Chickasaw unit.

Now my family of Brown's/Richey's lived in what is now Le Flore County, Ok, and moved from there to Denton, Tx in the late 1870s, and moved back to IT (Chickasaw Nation) late 1880s. I took an autosomal DNA test and it said we do have American Indian blood, but I am mostly Caucasian. Josephine and Sarah's parents were David B Brown and Harriet Guess/t, and frm all hte genealogy searches I think our Indian blood came from one or both of them.

But I am here to find out the relationship between the 29th Texas Cavalry and the 1st Choctaw and Chickasaw Mounted Rifles, because of researching my great grandma's sister's in-laws. Were they at one time the same unit? Was one once a part of the other? Why would that be? Also I'd like to find out more about the battles both units fought in, as well as the 2 that were mentioned in great grandma's brother-in-law's Texas pension. He also applied for a pension in Oklahoma but I haven't seen it yet. He was rejected in Texas because it said i.] he was under 60 years of age and ii.] he showed no connection between his injuries and service in the war. He had credible witnesses.

Thanks
