Re: Cherokee at Wilson's Creek -- Sources

I'm glad to see someone else trying to figure out the question of Cherokee and Stand Watie's involvement at the Wilson's Creek battle (known as Oak Hills to the the Southern side) fought on 8/10/1861. I live a few miles from the site and have been working on the question for years. Prof. Piston at MSU in Springfield says in his book that Watie was not there and there was little involvement by the Cherokee. Frank Cunningingham in his book says Watie was there with 1000 men and Brad Agnew of NE Okla State wrote the forward for the book but told me in an email the Piston was probably right! It is a real quagmire of a question and every other book has a different opinion and each says they are right.
