Scullyville is just southwest of Ft Smith AR in the Choctaw Nation. There may have been some skirmishing around October 24th but I think it would be more likely this person (in the 1st C&C Mtd Rifles) died of natural causes. It doesn't sound like this is "your" James Jackson.

There are six Jacksons in the 9th TX Cav.
