The late-Jess C. Epple interviewed veterans of the engagement and published a thin volume in the 1960s. His son, Jess Jr., updated the book with several new photographs and other editorial work. It is available through the gift shop at Honey Springs Battlefield, 1863 Honey Springs Btlfld Rd., Checotah, OK 74426-6301. The cost is $10.60 [including tax] plus $3.00 p/h. (Since it is on consignment it doesn't qualify for the members discount which would normally be given to members of either the OHS or the Friends of Honey Springs or contributors to the Civil War Preservation Trust).

We also offer a "Honey Springs Trails Guide" which has all the text (but none of the photos) from the 55 wayside exhibit panels that line the 6 walking trails on the battlefield. [This 40-page booklet was created to comply with the American with Disabilities Act and is given free to anyone incapable of walking the trails. Otherwise it is sold for $3.00 + $0.18 tax and is available by mail from the above address for $4.75.)

Of course, Honey Springs is mentioned in Whit Edward's book, "The Prairie was on Fire: Eyewitness Accounts of the Civil War in Indian Territory." (which covers 107 hostile encounters and is also available here for $32.50 including taxes, postage, and handling).

[Note: We do not take plastic, but will take checks or money orders. -- And, of course, the gift shop will be open before and after, but not during, the annual Memorial Service, which will be held next Saturday, 14th July, at 10:30 a.m.]
