Samuel Pearson Newcomb kept a diary starting on January 1, 1865 when 120 people forted up at Fort Davis in Stephens County, TX. They forted up after 7 people were killed and 7 were taken captive in the Battle of Elm Creek near now Newcastle, Young County TX. See a typescript of part of this diary by clicking on:
