Fields and Brewer

There is an interesting coincidence (at least to me) in the new postings regarding OHP "Perry" Brewer and the recent postings about Capt. Richard Fields. Jim posted the message below regarding Lt Col OHP Brewer who is the older brother of our great-great grandmother, Nancy Ella Brewer.

The Indian-Pioneer interview was conducted by Ella Robinson which is likely Ella Coody Robinson whose own interview we have been discussing. Ella Robinson is the granddaughter of Capt Richard Fields (b.1802). When Ella's father died, her mother, Elizabeth Pack Fields Coody, married Capt. John S. Vann. John's sister was Delilah who married OHP Brewer.

In Ella's interview, she mentions "Uncle Perry" coming to help the extended family and neighbors flee to Texas from their homes west of Webbers Falls near Dirty Creek (near the David Vann aka John Drew Salt Works, not to be confused with Drew's salt works near the Illinois). Their homes were robbed and burned by scouts of the IHG after the battle of Honey Springs.

You may have noticed in the interview about OHP Brewer that his mother was Elizabeth Taylor. She is the sister of Lt Col Thomas Fox Taylor who was taken prisoner and executed by Pins after the Battle of Bayou Menard. Elizabeth and Thomas Fox Taylor's half-sister was Francis Taylor, wife of Capt. James Butler. Francis Taylor was a 1st cousin of Lt Col Robt C. Parks who was killed by her husband.

The family connections will make your head spin. Many of the officers of the Cherokee Confederate regiments were related to each other.
