The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Ken...you need to invest in a subscription to the "Civil War Data Systsem's "American Civil War Research Database". Cost is $25 per year.

They have the roster of the 79 USC Inf (new)- formerly the 1st KS Colored troops. This is a list of 1192 men who made up the regiment. for each person, when known they list the residence, age, date and location of enlistment, date and place of muster in and muster out.... and pension # if known.

They also have a roster of the 79 USC Inf (old)- only a list of 496 men...probably not associated with the KS Colored troops.

This is the main database I use when approving submissions to the SUVCW's national graves registration database. A fantastic source and more reliable in most cases than the Civil War Soldiers and Sailor's system...and with a lot more information. It's the best $25 I have invested. Not a lot for Indian Territory records yet, but I understand that may be in the works in the future.

I have no connection with this group, other than re-upping my subscription last month for another year. I use the site literally several times a day (I approve records before starting work and before heading home each day, and enter graves records during my breaks...kind of hard core, but my one passion for Civil War research. Some people reenact, I locate graves...I guess I'm more comfortable with the dead than the alive...).

Just thought you'd like to know about this source that IS available, and for a reasonable fee.
