Fort Arbuckle; Wm. Justiss' 1976 U of AR thesis

An index-gazetteer of a 97-page 1976 University of Arkansas Master’s Thesis by William B. Justiss: FORT ARBUCKLE, OUTPOST IN INDIAN TERRITORY, 1850-1870 is posted on:

The most upsetting aspect of this thesis is that Fort Arbuckle was located in now Garvin County OK and was not written by an Oklahoma college student.
.
Another disturbing aspect is that Justiss simply skipped the Civil War era even though Fort Arbuckle existed from 1851 to 1870. ..Justiss had exhausted the available resources; therefore, he and his professors were justified in signing this thesis.

This is understandable since the primary reference for Fort Arbuckle from 1861-1865 is the BOURLAND PAPERS, which had not been transcribed, interpreted, and indexed until I arrived on the scene. ....The BOURLAND PAPERS tie the North Texas Militias (Texas State Troops) and the Confederates of North Texas records to both the Chickasaw-Choctaw Nations and the Plains Indians of the Wichita Mountains of the Leased Lands of Indian Territory. Also, Bourland was an aide-de-camp to Colonel D.H. Cooper during the Battle of Round Mounatain ....Since Brig-General H.E. McCulloch and General S.B. Maxey burned their records, the importance the BOURLAND PAPERS is accentuated.
.
I spoke with William Buchanan Justiss, an attorney in Fayetteville AR, who quickly stated that he was thrilled that I had found a substantial new source for Fort Arbuckle records, THE BOURLAND PAPERS of the Library of Congress, and he hoped that an Oklahoma college would see fit to request a second master's thesis about Fort Arbuckle.

.
Question for our Oklahoma colleges.
.
Is it time for another master's thesis about Fort Arbuckle? ..I think so, now that THE BOURLAND PAPERS have been transcribed, interpreted, and indexed.
