Indian-Pioneer Papers -- Thomas Fox Taylor

A very few of the Indian-Pioneer Papers are online on the Okgenweb site. I ran across this one that I thought I'd share. The "Tom Taylor" mentioned was Lt Col Thomas Fox Taylor, 1st Cherokee Mtd Volunteers, that was captured and killed by Pins at the Battle of Bayou Menard. (Incidently, TF Taylor is an uncle, generations back, of Jim and I.) The story is a little hard to follow and I doubt Lt Col Taylor was buried at Ft Gibson, if at all, but the interviewee's description of the life and times is quite interesting. The Bidding Mill was TF Taylor's mill and I believe it survived until just a few years ago when it was destroyed by fire. (Can someone confirm that?)

The battle he mentions near Welling is the Battle (skirmish) on Barron Fork.
