It is an interesting mystery no doubt. I think it took place over considerable acreage. To make all the geographic descriptions fit, I think it started on the Texas Road and resulted in a running fight that continued to the creek banks (largely now inundated). The road can still be followed easily across the ground.

Keep in mind regarding artifacts, that metal detecting, etc., is often far from systematic. When it is carefully mapped as part of a large project (such as at Massard Prairie or Devil's Backbone, over in Arkansas), it can be quite revealing. When it is done hit and miss, though, it is hard to use it to reveal much about battle strategy. A good example is at the Honey Springs park where a wide ranging study revealed very different data than hit and miss detecting.
