The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

I am encouraged by the fact that so many are researching the overlooked topic of the CW in Oklahoma. Too long neglected by the mainstream and full of incomplete and incorrect information. Now, if we could just get the mainstream to understand the complexities of the war in Indian Territory and quit the general assumption that most of the Five Tribes were Southern sympathizers, then,
we can begin to assess our history. By this, I mean, for years, one could go into the Confederate Room at the OHS
Wiley Post Building, and see a list of the tribes and tribesmen who served the Southern cause, leading one to believe that the South was it. Nothing much, in the Old Union Room, to indicate the support for the Union cause, or the civil war within the civil war, which afflicted the Five Tribes, and others. Its repercussions (starting with pro Removal and anti Removal factions) are still with the tribes and the people of modern Oklahoma. even if we do not recognize it.
