"The Indian Territory suffered devastating losses in the Civil War. Thirty-three percent of the population in Indian Territory were widows; 16 percent were fatherless children, while another 14 percent were orphans."
This statement was made in a book years ago by either Grant Foreman or Leroy Fischer; I can't remember which one at the moment. Since that time, I have seen at least two other authors use the statement word for word in their book. I can't find a source for the percentages. Does anyone know the source?
I believe it is true, just want to see the figures.
