Carlene: I'm struggling here a bit for lack of dates and certainly have nothing to jump up and down about but,

It appears your John A Sharp was born 6 NOV 1816/18 in TN.

I'm unsure as to who his wife was.

I believe I've got him living in Litle Springs, Brush Creek Twsp, Washington Co, Arkansas in August of 1860 per census listing dwelling 1806:

Name: John Sharp
Age in 1860: 45
Birth Year: abt 1815
Birthplace: Tennessee
Home in 1860: Brush Creek, Washington, Arkansas
Post Office: Little Springs
Household Members: Name Age
John Sharp 45 TN
William Sharp 19 AR
John Sharp 17 AR
Mary Sharp 15 AR
Tabitha Sharp 12 AR
Edward Sharp 10 AR
Martha Sharp 8 AR
Nancy Sharp 2 AR

If so, names and ages match, then service in an Arkansas Regt is most likely, beware however that son John b about 1843 would be a prime combatant.
