Nelson Grubb of the 3rd Cherokee Home Guard

I am trying to find information on Nelson Grubb. I am interested in any information on this man. I am especially interested in where and how Nelson Grubb died. Nelson was in the 3rd Cherokee Home Guard. He died September 1, 1863 and was buried on the same day according to records from Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Death and burial on the same day are a little strange to me. My thoughts are that Nelson's death had something to do with Honey Springs or Perryville.

I know little about Nelson. I have some evidence that he is the son of Nelson B. Grubb and grandson of Dr. Allen B. Grubb of McMinn, Tennessee. Apparently, either Allen B. or Nelson B. married a Cherokee, and the grandson favored the Cherokee way of life.
