Kathleen, Do you know what unit John R. White was in? Is he Arkansas on the 1860 Census? Do you know date of death? Anything additional you can provide might help in finding new info on him. Did they have children?

Can you back track the Flippo name on the rolls? That is, the Dawes Census Cards are linked to the 1880 Cherokee Census which gets you closer to the Civil War period. If there was any question of their Cherokee citizenship, there may be the transcripts of hearings in their Application Packet.

What about other rolls? Old Settlers Roll 1851 or Drennen Roll 1852. If they are on the Old Settlers Roll, then there will be a Old Settlers Payroll 1894 record which often shows decendants.
