They didn't want the Five Nations to 'turn over', that is, to rescind their Confederate treaties and ally themselves with the US.

I had not thought about this. It would have been a good excuse for the whites to take the Indian Territory. Really the Indians had no reason to fight for the confederacy. Albert Pike had a lot of influence with the Indians and therefore the confederacy used Pike to influence the Indians to help them. Finally Pike had a belly full and quit.
Pike was supposed to have acted as Lawyer for the Indians and got a lot of money for them from the Government before the Civil War. Did the confederacy get any of the Indian money? At one time Pike said he was even having to use his own money.
