Old Miller County Courthouse

Below is from my 1,046-page book. It was probably taken from THE OKLAHOMA CHRONICLES, but I erased some of the references to squeeze the number of pages. ..(It seemed the thing to do at press time.)

Miller Court House, county seat of Old Miller County, Arkansas Territory with a post office Sep 5, 1824-Dec 28, 1838, near Kulli Inla, later Shawneetown, 5 miles southwest of now Idabel, McCurtain County.

I highly recommend that you find a book about Old Miller County AR by my great friend of 20 years, Skipper Steely: SIX MONTHS FROM TENNESSEE, Henington Pub Co, Wolfe City TX (1982). This is a thoughtful book from original (1819-1830) Miller County AR records that his elderly aunts of Idabel OK had in a trunk.
.
Skipper is my age -- b-1942 -- and is actively studying the history of the Old Miller County AR area, that encompasses parts of now Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas.
.
Let's study our primary records. .. It was distressing to learn that some deans of the history departments of Texas universities had never heard of Skipper's book nor Old Miller County. And did not see a reason they should shelve his book, even if it was from handwritten 1819-1830 records because it would have trickled to them if it was important. ..Not true. ..That's assuming Simon & Schuster or equivalent is publishing the book.
.
I don't know about the deans of our Oklahoma universities, but we can hope they know about Old Miller County. ... For goodness sake, let's concentrate on our "primary records" instead of the prevalent "theory of history" now in vogue. ..I've heard professors state "the current way to write history, etc." ... That concept may be relevant two generations after the original records are transcribed and interpreted, but I doubt it.
.
My son sent me a book about Oklahoma history written by a professor of an Oklahoma university with an introduction by David Boren, President of the University of Oklahoma. ..Since it was no more than the theory of the history of Oklahoma, I trashed it. .. almost poked a hole in the trashcan.
.
I shall jump off my soap box. .. may be a long drop.
