Do we know what unit "Phil" is in? He's a Texan and not in Martin's Regt or Bankhead's. Brig. Gen. W.L. Cabell is gone east in Arkansas after the battle at Devil's Backbone near Greenwood AR.
The reference to "Cabell's Battalion" is interesting. Maj A.S. Cabell was, as I recall, in Bonham at this time as chief quartermaster for the District of Indian Territory. Is there a field unit called "Cabell's Battalion" or is Phil cleverly saying they hope supplies are on their way from the quartermaster at Bonham?
I fixed the link to the Standard at the bottom of your post... and here it is again:

There's an earlier letter on this page, written to the editor from Camp Butler near Honey Springs Depot -- on Butler Creek near the Texas Road just north of Elk Creek. This letter describes the march from Ft Arbuckle to Cochran's and across the Boggies.
I'm told that the letters to the editor, which are signed a Soldier in the 29th, were actually written by Col. DeMorse who owned the newspaper and was writing to his employee. Can anyone provide evidence that DeMorse was the writer?
