Major A.S. Cabell, AQM; Wells' Battn ?

Ken Martin,
.
What worries me is the “30 June 62” portion of each of the 41 records of the 581 records of Wells Battn. ..That does not jive with the fact: "appointed Major and QM on May 1, 1863, to rank Feb. 16, 1863".
.
"... Muster for period 30 Jun 62-30 Jun 63 states on detach. serv. teaming for QM Dept. at Bonham, TX, by order of Mj. Cabell. ..."

Maybe I don’t understand exactly what the originals stated. .. Maybe he was just plain confused with his brother, Major William Lewis Cabell. ..But I tend to agree with you, the “Mj. Cabell” mentioned in the 41 records was probably meant to be "A.S. Cabell".
