My great-great-grandad was John Wesley Odom. He was left at Hemstead at one time by the surgeon but finally made it back to the unit later. He was on duty in Galveston, Houston and the Eastern area of Texas. He mustered out at Houston. He later married in Van Zandt County and later moved to West Texas. He died in Breckenridge and he is buried there.

He came to Texas in January 1848 and his Dad, Rev. Randol Odom built a cabin at Maydelle, Texas which is still standing. It is now known as the Cambell/Odom cabin. There is a Texas historcial seal on it.
