Watson, George Washington Watson (1845 Marion County TN-1920 Kiowa Co OK, Mountain Park Cem); m-1869 Peatown, Rusk Co TX to Tempie Ann English, 10 ch; found in censuses: 1860 and 1870 Rusk Co TX, P.O. Cotton Plant; 1880 and 1900 Montague Co TX; and 1910 Kiowa Co OK. He served in probably Hubbard's 22d Infantry, Co's B or I. Family tradition states: "While his company was on leave from the eastern front, George returned too late to join his company on their departure back east (missed his ride), so he was sent to the North and West Frontier to serve in Bourland's Regt. ..[After the Dec 1, 1864 muster]. ... Family tradition states: ..Their [men of Bourland's Regt] duties were to guard the frontier against the Indians. ..They did much scouting. George was with a detachment of Bourland’s men on one occasion, snowbound in the Wichita Mountains, and their horses had nothing to eat for several days except cottonwood tree bark [ca. Feb 7, 1865]." ..sent by Coy Wilbur Watson of Lawton OK.
