Re: James Preston Beck (cross post from MO)

Is there a connection to the Cherokee Becks or to Becks in Ft Smith AR? Hildebrand's Mill became the Beck Mill. In the early 1900s, Aaron Beck owned the mill and that vicinity is known as Beckworth. The Goingsnake Massacre occurred at the trial of Zeke Proctor when a posse of Becks from Ft Smith (whites) came to arrest Proctor to try him in Arkansas for killing Polly Beck -- their relative and a Cherokee. My great grandparent's Cherokee marriage certificate was signed by district clerk Head Beck. Seems one of my Cherokee Crittenden ancestors married a William Billingley Beck.
