One example from the IPP
In Response To: Re: One example from the IPP ()

Greg James,
.
First, the readers of this message board and I want to express our gratitude for your interesting posting. ..Thank you for sharing information about your gg-grandmother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Garrett Gibson, primarily because women of history tend to fall between the cracks. ..Fascinating.
.
The Big House confused with The Cattleman's Cafe. ..If you send your e-mail address, I will transmit a 2-page OKLAHOMA NEWS article: "West Lives Almost Within Stone's Throw, City Skyscrapers in Colbert's Kingdom" that is about Thomas Rutherford "Oad" Colbert's (1879-1939) 100 acres with 50 feed lots to accomodate 5,000 head of cattle. ..His business card reads: "Colbert's Mill and Feed Co., 219 South Pennsylvania (Between Stock Yards and City), Oklahoma City" which is, of course, on the North Canadian River. ..Two of his nephews told me (not true) 15 years ago that Oad's home, The Big House, where Oad fed his cowboys and ranchers later became the Cattleman's Cafe. ..I have about 20 pages on this family.
.
Oad Colbert's parents were Nancy Margaret Bourland (1846-1913) and Christopher "Lum" Columbus Colbert (1844-1883, half-Chickasaw), m-1864 Goodland, Choctaw Nation, who settled in 1883 on the 20-section Block Ranch on Wildhorse Creek near now Duncan, Stephens Co OK.
.
"C.C. Colbert was in service of the Confederacy during the Civil was, joining the regiment organized by General Cooper, then agent for the tribes. ..He served as a private a year, until compelled to leave the ranks on account of illness." per Luther Hill's HISTORY OF STATE OF OKLAHOMA, Chicago IL, Lewis Pub Co, (1908) vol II page 224.
