Were passports req'd to cross Red River?

Patrick and Jim Martin,
.
Question: Are any copies of such passports known to exist? No, I've only seen letters from THE BOURLAND PAPERS, some are posted on my web page.
.
Evidently there were passport forms to be completed, but I doubt that any ever arrived in North Texas. One is described in an 2003 auction announcement for a rare "Confederate passport" found on the Internet that I posted at the bottom of web page:

.
After I read Jim Martin's posting, it occurred to me that he, and others, had not seen my book in which I presented "numbers of Indian Territory residents" that camped on the North bank of Red River; so I added several key paragraphs to the above web page.
.
Thanks to Evelyn Rard, who sent her copy of "WPA, Indian Pioneer Papers (IPP), i.e., Interviews of 1861-1865 Indian Territory residents in the 1930s," I have several specific descriptions of miserable living conditions on the North bank of Red River during the last year or two of the War. Before, I only had the numbers of Indian Territory residents camped on in Southern Chickasaw and Choctaw Nation plus general comments written in family histories sent by descendants.
.
Therefore, you may want to glance at this web page again, since I've added stuff.

The main reason for ensuring "proper papers" was that so many deserters were roaming North Texas. And yes, men were arrested if they did not have "proper papers." I understand that soldiers usually kept their "enlistment" papers in their caps. Records show that after Mar 1, 1864, Bourland's men were constantly transferring prisoners arrested by other military units to the CSA jail in Bonham, Fannin Co TX.
.
Please send questions and/or data to expand our study of passports to "cross Red River into Texas" and to "cross Red River into Indian Territory."
