Terry,
This is thoroughly confusing.

John Anthony Foreman, born June 10, 1844 at Park Hill, Cherokee Nation, was the son of Rev. Stephen Foreman, a "native preacher". He enlisted in Watie's Regiment at Webbers Falls on Oct. 12, 1862 (age 18) and was appointed 1st sergeant, 2nd Co. I, on May 1, 1863. After the war, he lived north of Claremore but at the time of the Dawes Roll, he and his wife Amanda were living in Roswell NM on account of her health (asthma). See: http://www.okgenweb.org/books/thoburn/bios3/foreman_john.txt

The major of the 3rd IHG ("the Pin regiment") is also John A. Foreman, but obviously not the same person. This John A. Foreman was from Lawrence KS and was captain of Co. C, 10th Kansas Volunteer Infantry before being promoted to major at the formation of the 3rd IHG.

Major Foreman may have been one of the first residents of Muskogee. See: http://books.google.com/books?id=XTwVAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA484&lpg=PA484&dq=major+%22john+a.+foreman%22&source=bl&ots=yt7WF-SfIe&sig=CHopiHT0389SaxMSYA23A5uxG_A&hl=en&ei=eqrvSa_xLpuqtgep1vnVDw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6
