There was definately a blood feud between Watie's men and the men of the 3rd IHG. I doubt there were any prisoners taken between the two. It would interesting to know if Major Foreman had any personal motivation beyond being an aggressive and reliable commander. Though Watie and his men were considered good fighters, they often had to "flee" when faced by superior firepower etc.. The quality of their shoulder arms and powder was far inferior to the Union forces. Of course, they were always under supplied. I'd say one of Watie's strong points was "strategic fleeing" ;-) They would go on scouts with five rounds per man. If faced by a much smaller force that had full cartridge boxes, fleeing was the right thing to do.
