Sound tactics no matter how one looks at the individuals involved in the campaign. I have completed the transcription of the bulk of the Hindman papers from the PWA collection, amongst which are constant communiques from Cooper for munitions and supplies of all kinds. After Pike was more or less terminated from the scene it was hard for the Indian commands to obtain proper munitions. So it would only seem reasonable that Watie would chose to AVOID conflict as a lesser option if the opportunity did not exist to fight favorably. Common sense in fact. Still, I tend to think there was some kind of personal grudge from Foreman against Watie. Given the nature of the 3rd IHG it would almost seem so. I tend to think there is a family link somewhere in the mix, which will take some work to sort out.
