Yes, the more I read about it, the more I realized that there were two columns that left Fort Smith at the same time, one going west to Northfork and one going south to Caddo Gap. Both rounded up men and raided homes. There are also a lot of references to raids going out of Fort Smith into the Choctaw country at the same time. I think most of these were minor one and two day expeditions and they continued throughout the last two years of the war. A quick review of the Kansas Adjutant General's reports shows that men were killed in the area around Fort Smith on these types of small raids almost daily. These actions, however, caused widespread misery among Choctaw families.
