1862 Leased Lands, I.T., Fort Cobb, Sep 16.....“On Tuesday last Capt. J. L. Randolph received a dispatch from Fort Cobb to the effect that there were 400 Federals with 1500 Indians at the Washita Agency, and that the Chickasaw Battalion stationed at that place had to fall back to Fort Arbuckle.” per Northern Standard, Sep 20, 1862, Clarksville, Texas.

1862 Cooke Co TX, Gainesville, Oct 1......Provost Marshal James Bourland and Brig-Gen. Wm. Hudson declared martial law since Gainesville was seething with hundreds of opinionated people from neighboring communities. That entailed ordering companies of Hudson’s 21st Militia Brigade and the 15th Militia Brigade commanded by Brig-Gen. Hugh F. Young who recruited Captain J.L. Randolph from Camp Tishomingo, I.T. (Chickasaw Nation, now Johnston Co OK). The militia from the 21st Brigade patrolling the streets were commanded by W.C. Twitty were from the militia of Captains C.L. Roff, A.M. Birdwell. and W.H. Jasper (temporarily commanded by S.P.C. Patton).

Texas 5th Partisan Rangers
formed from
10th Cavalry and 9th Cavalry Battalion Partisans
.
On February 6th 1863 at Fort Washita, I.T., Brig-General Albert Pike consolidated the 10th Texas Cavalry Battalion (commanded by Colonel L.M. Martin) and the 9th Texas Cavalry Battalion Partisans (commanded by Major John L. Randolph) to form the 5th Partisan Rangers. The commanders of these new 5th Partisan Rangers were Colonel L.M. Martin, Lt-Colonel Wm. M. Weaver and Major Wm. N. Mayrant. Martin’s 5th Partisan Rangers Regiment participated in several skirmishes and battles primarily in the Indian Territory and the Northern Sub-District of Texas.
