The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

New member

Hello, I stumbled across this forum while I was researching Indian units at the 1st Battle of Newtonia (Missouri). I'm thankful I found it.

I guess an introduction should be in order. I live in Joplin, Mo and been involved in Civil War History for awhile (starting in Kansas City). I am a member of the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT), volunteer at Wilson's Creek, Reenactor for around 15 years and a member of the Newtonia Battlefield Protection Association. (NBPA). Being a member of the NBPA has been great and I was asked to help out on their newest project.

Ozark Public Television (PBS) is going to do a documentary on the 1st Battle of Newtonia (1862). I was asked to round-up reenactors and such for the filming which will happen next summer, which is how I found you. Looking up weapons used by the Native American troops (on both sides). Of course, your story about Capt. Miner is extremely relevant to what I am doing. I hope more info comes up.

I'll do some searching and scanning over old forum articles to see if I can catch up on pertinent information. And I hope I can contribute as best I can. Great forum found at the right time.

Jim R.
