1st Choctaw & Chickasaw Mounted Rifles

Last week I was sworn in as a new member of the Gainesville, TX SCV, Lee-Bourland Camp 1848. I joined under my gg-grandfather, Isam Beams, CO D, 1st Choctaw & Chickasaw Mounted Rifles. I have another gg-grandfather who was with the 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry, later consolidated into another unit. I chose to use Sgt. Beams because I was born and raised here in Oklahoma.

I have been reading some online info about the mounted rifles and really haven't found that much. Do any of you all know of some good reading material about the mounted rifles. Did Company D participate at Honey Springs. I need to get back up there and revisit the battlefield.

I just started using ancestry.com and found over 2000 documents related to the mounted rifles. I read about 50 last night and had a ball. Maybe some of those will have info about Honey Springs.

If anyone has info about the mounted rifles please let me know. I am really excited about this.

Thanks,
