Oxendine or Exindine

I recently found an obscure reference to a man living in Eminence Missouri in 1860-61 named Oxendine or Exindine or something similar. The story was that he and two younger men left Missouri at the start of hostilities in the Shannon County area and went to IT and joined a unit under the command of Stand Watie. Supposedly one of them was wounded, captured by Union forces and taken to a hospital in Kansas, where he was treated by Union doctors. The orderlies at this location were Delaware relatives of his who had left Eminence, MO about the same time he had, but had joined the Union forces in Kansas. Does this ring any bells with anyone? Are there records of the IT units online?
