It seems extremely unlikely to me that they were Osage. They are from North Carolina. The Osage lived west of the Mississippi in what is now Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, and Oklahoma. At the beginning of the war, the Osage were on a reservation along the southern border of Kansas. After the war, the Osage were moved from Kansas to the Indian Territory (Oklahoma) and the Osage land in Kansas was opened to white settlement.
