Wow!

You answered several questions, some even before I asked them. I was going to ask you what the term "Lick" meant but now I know. I was also going to ask you about other salt producing locations in that area.

Over the last several years I've been aquiring as much material as I can find on the Civil War in Indian Territory. I have a friend at the OK Historical Society Museum Gift Shop who keeps me informed about new books on the subject.

As far as I can tell there is really no good map available. Of course there are good maps but I'm mainly talking about a detailed wall map or fold out map. I have the OR Atlas Maps on DVD but their not as complete as I would like. Many of the maps in the books availble are not that detailed either or they are from a later period of OK history. I'm aware of the Henry Jackson map located in the Rumsey collection but as far as I can tell they don't offer a reproduction of it. I have the State Highway Commission Centenial Map and one from the Dept of Transportation made a little later and they are pretty good. But It would be nice to have a research quality map with all the mills, saltworks, camps, fords, ferries, roads, trails and such to go along with the settlements. If it had topographical features as well as vegetation that would be wonderful. That sounds like a lot I know but it's just a wish list.

Have you ever considered making such a map. I see you have answered many questions regarding Civil War locations and such. People would like to see and know where these places are today and not just the main and plain ones but the obscure and difficult to find as well. One thing is for sure, the OK Hist Soc needs a better map than the 1889 map they now sell. It's a good map but it is hard to read and not specific to the Civil War.

Thanks again for your answers and all your work on this site.
