More on Alberty's Lick
In Response To: Re: Alberty's Lick? ()

I found these posts of mine from a couple of years ago. I had completely forgotten about this. It appears that "Alburty's Lick" may be the original West Salt Works (operated by my ancestors) that became the Markham Salt Works on the east side of the Grand a few miles southwest of present Locust Grove. Note the second post below, in particular, which says that William Alberty was "in charge of the property". It could be he continued "in charge of the property" long after Bluford West's death and that the West and later Markham Salt Works were known as Alberty's Lick. These families are closely connected -- the Wests and Albertys in particular -- and Leroy Markham married Bluford West's widow which is how he acquired the West Salt Works.
