The Oklahoma Legislature created a Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission (12 members to be appointed 4 each by the Governor, the Speaker of the House, and the President Pro Tem of the Senate). There are several statutory advisors (of which I am one) but the first meeting of the commission is not until late November. Oklahoma is far behind Arkansas which began meetings of their commission in January.
There are tentative plans for the Oklahoma Historical Society to have at least one session devoted to the Civil War at each of its annual meetings from 2010 through 2015 (with perhaps the whole 2013 meeting devoted to the subject); I am chairing a panel discussion on "The prelude to war" during the annual meeting to be held in Durant (April 2010).
