Hi, I am in hopes that someone here can steer me in the right direction. I am trying to learn the detailed history of the Second Cherokee Mounted Rifles (also known as the First Cherokee Regiment. The person that I am researching is John Mathews, Jr., who first enlisted Cherokee Outlet Company, formed in the Osage Nation (at Chetopa, KS.) on June 4, 1861. In particular, I am interested in knowing if Mathews survived the war or was killed in action. Does anyone know where I should look for such detailed information?
