Thanks Steve for the great information. Sorry it took me so long to reply -- I'll blame it on being terribly busy at work. I am distantly related to some of those families living in the Neutral Lands (Fields, Harlans). I'm still trying to wade through the info and articles and sources. I'd be surprised if Watie in person was at the second raid on Humboldt but it is certainly possible. The personal connection between these various men is quite interesting -- Watie, Mathews, Livingston, etc..
