in less than year---------Looks like he replaces-Lt. Col.--T. Fox Taylor-killed July 1862?

B.May 21 1841 Son of James Allen and Martha {Lynch}Thompson
His early education was obtained at the schools of the Cherokee Nation,the Cherokee academy and male seminary at Tahlequah from which he went to Cumberland University,at Lebanon,Tennessee,where he graduated in the literary deptment in 1861.

Mr Thompson then enlisted for the Civil War,entering the 7th Tennessee Infantry,and was active service thoughout the War,being later transferred to the 1st Arkansas Cavalry,known as Pierce Brigade.
After the Dis-banning of this Brigade he joined the "First Cherokee Regiment" as Sergeant Major and
in a few weeks made Captain of Company 'E'--and upon its --re-organiztion was elected to the postion of Major,serving in that capacity until Death of the Lt Col.--when he was promoted to that position.
At the close of the war he was Ajutait-General of the first Indian Brigade.
