It looks like a good short biography can be found in: History of Alabama and Dictionary of Alabama Biography, Thomas McAdory Owen, (S.J. Clarke Publishing Co.: Chicago, 1921), Vol. IV at pages 1514-5. According to Owen, Scott grew up in Russell County, AL. Scott was educated in the schools of Huntsville, AL and was a graduate of the Univ. Of Tenn graduating in 1850 after studying law. He was admitting to the bar in AL and started practicing in Huntsville. He became a state legislator. He was part of the cmte. sent by the AL GOV to meet Pres. Davis and escort Davis to Mobile. Scott became an assistant to Davis and was then appointed to the Indian Service. He spent the balance of his CSA career in the Indian Service. After the War, he returned to the family plantation in Russell County and also to politics. In 1885, he was appointed by Pres. Cleveland to adjudicate land depredation claims in New Mexico. During Cleveland's 2nd term, Scott was appointed as the Chmn. of the Commn. assisting with the Ute Indians and assimilation on their new reservation in Utah.
He married Lula M. Hurt, daughter of fellow Russell County planter William Hurt in 1864. Owen indicates that they had children. He apparently was a semi-prolific author. However, his last home was listed as Auburn, AL.
Good hunting. Greg
