I want to press the point of Watie "ordered to report to Bourland". I'm not reading it quite that way but you may have other sources on this. It sounds like Watie was to cooperate with Bourland or at least they had the same objectives. Watie undoubtedly knew Quantrill personally. It is believe Quantrill was staying with Cherokee in the northeastern Cherokee Nation in 1861 and accompanied the contingent of the Cherokee that fought at Wilsons Creek. I believe Adair knew Quantrill and cooperated with his men in 1864 after Phillips Expedition into the Creek, Seminole, and Chickasaw country.
