Ken....As is often the case in military history,if a story is repeated frequently by a legion of writers,it becomes accepted as fact by many readers.These stories acquire a life of their own and become part of the popular culture:their factual foundation is no longer questioned,much less critically evaluated.One such story in American military literature that I personally developed an interest were certain incidents in the Henry/Donelson Campaign.After a carefull examination of all available original sources it would appear that as often as not,there are as many different versions of an event as there are eyes that viewed it.
