Good post. In terms of general works, I remember going through that reading list you provided, and not really finding much to like beyond Whit Edwards (and that is really a source compilation more than anything else). You've mentioned the subject many times of the boards, but I have never seen more muddled geography than that found in IT books. While it may be true that no two maps from the period are alike, the IT seems to take it to a new level.
