The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Re: Seminole Rebels
In Response To: Seminole Rebels ()

Zach,
Often overlooked because they lived in Creek Territory after they arrived in the Nations are the Apalachicolas. Econchattimico's band was included in the Treaty of Moultrie Creek and are considered by many to have been Seminole at least during the 1820s and 1830s. They eventually merged back in with the Creek Nation. In 1861, however, they entered into a separate agreement with the Confederate government in which they expressed outrage that the United States had never paid them for their property losses in Florida, despite repeated promises to do so. The vast majority of their warriors fought for the Confederacy.

Best,
Dale
