The Indian Territory in the Civil War Message Board

Battle of Wichita Village, Rush Springs OK

Danny Knight,

Thank you for your fascinating postings. Putting these family connections on this message board is VERY helpful to all researchers.
.
Yes, this thread ties several strands of the history of Southern Indian Territory (esp. South-Central Oklahoma), including my baliwick, Rush Creek -- a section of Oklahoma neglected thus far by our universities. Let's hope that some day our university presidents will be alerted to this void.
.
We are abutting wholesale ignorance, due in part to our universities, who, yes, turn out our local teachers.
.
Several years ago, when I was attending a "tractor pull" in Sulphur, Murray County OK, an elderly lady approached my table and quickly let me know that she was a college graduate and I was all wet BECAUSE "during the Civil War, nothing happened here in Oklahoma ... etc." ... (That year, 5,000 people attended the well-advertized "tractor pull.") ..Unfortunately, this attitude was prevalent for several reasons and reached into our Okla. Legislature ... I will now jump off my soapbox. ...
.
Keep up the good work. Your great friend,
.
