.
Question: Please help me find this 1937 interview narrative on the Internet.
.
While composing an answer for Kent Thompson's Love's Valley question, I stumbled onto this problem. .. In the Univ. of Okla. Indian-Pioneer Papers search function, I could find neither the interviewer nor the interviewee mentioned in my bibliography entries below. Evidently, some, if not all of the slave narratives are in this data base.

at issue: ..Wm. Merrick's wife, Mary (1830-1875). Was she the dau of Overton Sobe Love (b-1823)? ..No, she was Col. James Bourland's dau, but proving it was quite an undertaking.

from my BENJAMIN BOURLAND & FOURTEEN OF HIS CHILDREN bibliography entries
.
WPA OKLA SLAVE NARRATIVES, "Mary Lindsay," Wash D.C. (1941), p178-186 (246-253),interview by Robert Vincon Lackley, Spring 1937 ..[Overton] Sobe Love of
south of Fort Washita I.T. gave slave Mary to his dau Mary mvd to Cedar Mills, Grayson Co TX and m. Henry Lindsay. ..see Marie King Garland's CHICKASAW LOVES, Sobe Love born 1823 Holly Springs MS-d. 1906 Love’s Valley OK. Sobe Love was age seven
when Mary Bourland was born, TOO young.
.
Yetman, N R of Univ. of Kansas: "Mary Lindsay" LIFE UNDER THE "PECULIAR INSTITUTION" SELECTIONS FROM THE SLAVE NARRATIVE COLLECTION, New York City, Holt Rinehart & Winston (1970) pp207-212, interview Spring 1937. ..Mary Lindsay was owned by [Overton] Sobe Love of south of Ft Washita IT, gave slave
Mary to Col Jas Bourland’s dau Mary [Bourland]; later, Mary (m-Henry Lindsay) mvd to Cedar Mills, Grayson Co TX.
.
Implication that Wm Merrick m. Mary Love not Mary Bourland.

.
The Merrick family has published several Merrick family histories stating that Wm. Merrick was married to Mary Love, not Mary Bourland, and their reference was the 1937 interview with Mary (Love) Lindsay. Twenty plus years ago while living in Kan City MO, I could only find the two bibliography entries cited above. .. After several years of gathering info, I published my rationale in BENJAMIN BOURLAND & FOURTEEN OF HIS CHILDREN

Editor’s note: P R O O F that Wm Merrick m. Mary Bourland (1830-1875), NOT Mary Love...
.
1) Col James Bourland deeded land to Wm Merrick, Fann Co TX B_ p4Ol, maybe May 2, 1860, see sis Virginia Bourland Campbell..
.
2) Jas Bourland’s 1881 Cooke Co TX probate refers to minor gch: Granville Moore and Lavada Moore of Lampasas Co TX with father Enoch J
Moore...
.
3) "Nancy Ann Merrick's mom was Mary Boland." per Betty Lewis McClure of Shallowater, Lubb Co TX....
.
4) "Delia Merrick's mom was Mary J Bourland...Enoch J Moore m. Mary J Merrick, nee Bourland" per p58 and p77 resp SAM MARTIN MOORE by Matha Moore Jordon. ...
.
5) Lorna Merrick Moore 59 TX TX TN in 1910 cen, mother born in Tennessee
.
6) desc did not receive Indian land. ... Sobe Overton Love was Chickasaw
.
7) not dau of [too young] Overton "Sobe" Love [1823 Holly Springs
MS-1906 Love's Valley IT, ... Mary Merrick's slave, Mary Love Lindsay, was WRONG in 1935 WPA interview.
Merrick histories list Mary Love as this Wm Merrick’s wife.
